In its second edition, the Global Shrimp Forum, this year, provides a platform for the discussion of the most pressing issues, all major innovations and challenges faced by the global shrimp industry and also to develop a vision of the long-term strategy towards a resilient and sustainable industry. The event takes place in Utrecht, Netherlands from September, 5-7 this year.

An impressive programme of speakers and panellists from 272 companies from a total of 35 countries, ranging from importers, processors and retailers to farmers, hatchery operators and feed ingredient suppliers will attend this year’s event. The cohort of speakers featured includes industry leaders such as Rajagopal Choudary Chitturi, Chairman of Devi Fisheries; Adam Brennan, Chief Sustainability Officer at Thai Union; and Gibran Huzaifah, Founder and CEO of eFishery.

Key Program Observations:

  • Indian shrimp exports to drop 15% in 2023
  • US shrimp import volumes of 2023 to plunge to the lowest in 5 years
  • Vietnam, Indonesia, India to witness major drop in production in 2023
  • Ecuador’s shrimp export growth slowing
  • Cargill: Sustainable shrimp comes at a price. But who will pay for it?
  • Second Indian shrimp crop ‘set to drop drastically,’ says Devi Fisheries chair
  • Certification bodies need to highlight non-price incentives
  • 6% growth in 2023 farmed shrimp output, 1% drop from wild shrimp forecasted
  • Global wild shrimp sector needs to address ‘data gaps’
  • Ecuador’s China focus ‘not healthy’
  • Sector backs generic marketing campaign but must be ready for potential backlash

As a non-profit foundation, the Global Shrimp Forum uses any financial surplus generated from the event to contribute financially to projects aligned with the foundation’s mission. This year the surplus was used to support the restoration of Indonesian mangroves and to fund a study into improving the promotion of shrimp.
